ABOUT

I was born and raised in Marquette, Michigan. It is the biggest "city" in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, but I still consider myself a small town girl.

I grew up to play sports, pretend to be normal, and take other interests, etc. but there is a saying among artists,"No one in their right mind should be an artist unless they absolutely have to." I learned quickly that I could communicate through drawing better with words. It was the special thing that made me unique in a positve way.

It wasn't until my undergrad that I embraced this need to create and actually began calling myself an "artist" and "illustrator" by name. I also found my passion for design.I have also learned the difference between art and design. They exist separately, yet intrinsically linked to one another.  Design is intentional. It's all about how form complimetns function. How we communicate our identity. A logo, a brand, a social media campaign, a website, they all serve to communicate who we are and what we are doing with clarity and integrity. There is little room for chaos. Art on the other hand, is where chaos, emotion, and spontenaity tell stories. The place where it is safe to be messy, dark, and passionate. The secret recipe is finding a good balance between the two. In my opinion, good design is done artistically, and good art is well-designed.  I hope to spend the rest of my life experimenting with the balance between the two and share my results with you all!
